Programs for Youth & Adults

Our programs are much more than learning to play fiddle. They are about honing in on playing skills, techniques and having fun. Youth programs will include learning about leadership, group dynamics, working in a team, and being on stage. This year we're excited to facilitate youth programs, adult programs and the Fiddle Cats (which is an all year program).

Membership is required to participate in our programs. Program registrations include annual membership fees, or sign the whole family up with our 2025/2026 membership form.

All youth programs are instructed by Andrea Bettger. Class location to be confirmed prior to the Back-to-School workshop.

To register, please complete this form which applies for ALL YOUTH programs, including the Fiddle Cats.

Violin Orchestra

Adult Fiddle Program
Classes run on Wednesdays from 7-8pm at the City of Yellowknife Aquatic Centre.
To register please fill out this form.

These classes are a no stress, fun-filled opportunity to meet other new or beginner adult fiddlers, learn and practice your fiddle skills, and grow your fiddle tune repertoire. By the end of the first program, you’ll know some standard fiddle tunes played around the NWT so you can be confident in fiddle jams, and even participate in Aurora Fiddle Society performances.

Session 1: October 8-November 26, 2025 (Oct 8, 15, 22, 29 and Nov 5, 12, 19, 26)
Session 2: January 14-March 4, 2026 (Jan 14, 21, 28, Feb 4, 11, 18, 25, March 4)

Each session costs $150. Program fees can be e-transferred to aurorafiddletreasurer@gmail.com.
We also ask that program participants be registered as a member. To become a current member, click here.

Instructor: Alice Twa is an AFS alum and has been fiddling for over 10 years. She first started playing at the age of 10 in the Weledeh Catholic School lunch hour fiddle club, and quickly joined the Aura Fiddle Society Fiddle Cats. With this group, she has performed around Yellowknife in venues such as the Snowking Winter Festival, NACC, and the Black Knight, and across Canada before graduating from the program and heading to university. Alice has taught many youth and adults with no fiddle experience to the intermediate level in private lessons, small group classes, workshops and in the Aurora Fiddle Society Fiddle Cub program.
